Before I entered college, I have always been dreaming of the universities I see in movies wherein you get to have your own chair and be sitted behind a cute guy classmate and he would look back at you to borrow a pen or beg for a paper and you always look forward on going to this class because of him. Just like Aaron and Cady in Mean Girls.
Cady Heron was forever my college girl peg even though she was only a highschool girl in the movie, I always thought back then that college is like this. And no not when she became the bitch one. Hahaha just my peg for unknown reasons. So imagine my shock when I become my own college girl self, everything was so different and was so somewhat fast.
I am this short chubby girl with full bangs and is always in bag pack when I entered college. I was so naive about everything. During my first day, which was an intro class, I get to sit at the very back of the classroom. I was so shy! I didn't know what to do and who to talk to. Everyone was talking and making conversations with their seatmates while I was being awkward with my one seat apart blockmate, Daryl. I wish I had a picture of myself back then. Hahaha
As time goes by I had been able to meet tons of different people and had brought myself some lessons I learned althroughout my stay in the university:
1. Never be afraid to try new things.
As what my mantra is from the famous Coldplay's song Fix You, "If you never try, you'll never know.". Always always try what you desire to try and do. Never be afraid to take a step forward and never be scared if you were pushed back. I may have let some opportunities passed me along the way, in which I sort of regret, but not all opportunities are my need and my want. I think everything is always about what you needed at the same time what you wanted. So if you feel like you need to do this or you want to do that, never take doubts and just go with the flow. It's okay to make mistakes.
2. Let them know you as you know them.
College is like an ocean full of different sea creatures. You might know a lot of people but you're not quite sure if they know you. I am not saying that you have to make papansin or anything. Just make them notice you or make your own voice. Join clubs! Join your course org! Meet new people! Everyday isn't always about having lunch with your blockmates or with your block/seatmate. Try to not enclose yourself with just a few people, its quite fulfilling when you walk on a hallway and you know most people. Build connections.
When I joined my course org, I never though of being quite known by my fellow course people. Well maybe because they saw me during events (behind the stage) or they see my awkward photos at my org's bulletin board, but I am happy that they know me. Heehee It's quite fulfilling and nakakakilig when people know you.
I've known a lot of people because of my org, not only inside the school but also externally. Since I had got a hold on the VP External for a year, I get to meet a few co-VP External from different universities. I also get to meet and be friends with some of our event speakers. :>
3. Maintain good relationships with your friends.
It had been quite hard for me to build relationships during my university stay. I had been in quite a few sets before I had met the right ones that would fit me. I had a silent fight which had caused from a total misunderstanding because of a guy during my first year. With what I thought I had found my besties during second year, this guy friend had stopped going to school and this girl had moved out on a different course. And till I found the perfect people that I could engage and exchange cray cray moments with. But you know it's not that easy when you all don't grow together anymore. I admit I had been quite distracted and a little bit moved out of the cloak of bond for awhile because I had found some comfort in someone else's and they had found theirs. There's no one to blame really. We all grow. It's just we had grew quite apart. It had been fixed but it's not the same anymore. It's quite sad but as cliche as it may seem, everything happens for a reason. And I had learned a lot of that experience. It is very important that you always learn.
So kids (naks feeling old), maintain good relationships.I am not saying you have to monitor you're moves so as you can stay and maintain. Most of the time too much maintenance can build gaps. All you have to do is just go and make friends but always keep the good ones that you want to go and have coffee with when you get old. ;)
4. Grades doesn't measure your experience.
I had never been an achiever ever since. So when I entered college, my only goal is to graduate on time and make new friends. I didn't eye on getting a 4.0 on all of my subjects. Basta pumasa ako okay na. Hahaha :p That's why I already got my very first 1.0 during my first year on Algebra, I was so happy. After that, my goal then was to just pass and never fail a subject. But I had failed a subject. Business Statistics. Haha It was a surprise actually. I was on my 3rd year, 1st sem phase and I was taking an Income Taxation too. Akala ko talaga babagsak na ako dun. I already had prepared my parents for it. My prelim and midterm grade was super low I didn't know what to do anymore. But in good luck, I got a 1.0 grade encoded on my portal account and I was relieved! But when I saw my stat grade, I was in full shock I got a little bit depressed.
I didn't told my parents about it. And up until now that I graduated they didn't know. Haha I have to hide it. I'm scared that they might get angry at me and such. Good thing they are the kind of parents who don't ask for their kids' grades or ask on what subjects you will be taking up. I took it during my fourth year (1st sem) because I have to kasi may pre-requisite. I was one subject late with my blockmates. But it had turned out a blessing since I get to have their notes and their final project with me. HAHAHA KIDS DON'T DO THIS TELL YOUR PARENTS IF YOU HAVE A FAILED GRADE. I AM NOT A GOOD EXAMPLE.
Kidding aside, I learned that grades doesn't measure what you have learned outside the classroom. It's not about getting a 4.0 in every subject or aiming high by getting awards and medals. It's about learning without measuring.
5. It's okay to avoid the rules, sometimes.
Never be afraid to cut class or copy an assignment. If you want to spice up your life, do all of this. ONLY THAT, you must do this for fun and not as a hobby. I have done this a few times. Hahahaha we go to malls or yung lunch break na 1 and a half, we make it 3 hours. Hahaha
You can cut class, but promise yourself that you do good in exams and that you pass your assignments on time. You can abide the rules, but never forget your purpose as a student.
6. Always learn and always be yourself.
If you think you are a very cray one or a nerd or a geek, never be afraid to show who you are. Being who you are is the key of you being good at things. Aim not to be just popular. Popular kids are those who are always around the gossips and are the hot topics. It's much better to keep a low profile while making friends. Yourself will take you far than you imagine it to be.
Always learn. Never ever forget to bring you learnings with you. You may graduate from school but you will never graduate from school of life.

Ahhhhh! I still cannot believe that I already graduated and will not go to school anymore! I'm still in the process of processing. Haha I hope my learnings will serve as your learnings too! Enjoy college and just always be happy! Goodluck guys! Cheers!!! <3 p="">
