I've been meaning to write my thoughts and rants for the TV show 'On The Wings Of Love' since. It has that 'can't get over' effect on me and I am pretty sure I am not the only one having this "Otwol fever". Aired last August 2015, everything that has happened since then was on pure kilig but in a very light comedy and realistic set up which is I think why we are all hooked; this is not the typical teleserye that we are used to.
After i've read CJ De Silva's thoughts on the Simon-Leah-Clark loveteam, I told myself na "ay okay na ako" because finally someone said what I had exactly in mind that I cannot quite put up into words. But when the last flight trailer aired Friday, I told myself that I had to rant because there are so so much emotions and thoughts! OA na kung OA but naguumapaw!
Let me just herewith share my thoughs, rants, and some realizations I learned from OTWOL.
RECAP
Simon's arrival was a big impact on the lives of Cleah: Leah on her career, and Clark facing his own personal issues. He was introduced as the typical boss, the one we read and see on novels and romcom movies. Simon is an example of the typical masungit-na-boss-pero-may-hugot-kaya-ganun-at-maiinlove-sa-bida, only that this time hindi sya bida.
His background is quite predictable. Somone who is a geek, fell in love for the wrong person, change his looks, got hurt, and the realize that he loves his best friend and accidentally the two of them didn't have the perfect ending. Forward to the present wherein his experiences made him stronger, tough, and very private. You know, kapag nasaktan ka you have to get your strength somewhere far from your bad experiences. I think that's why he doesn't go on full commitments and only dates vanilla girls.
When Leah came into his world, nagulo sya because she isn't the usual girl who has a crush on his good physique or work wise, someone who is afraid of him. As much as Simon gives challenge to his staff, Leah had challenged him as well. If we look deeply into his character, we can predict that he is not looking for love as he thinks he has found the one already and the way that he felt for Juliet cannot be replaced. But Leah unconsciously gets Simon's attention by just being herself - shy and unfocused at first but learned how to stood up and be confident. Let's admit it guys, si Leah ay isa sa 10 out of 25 na babae na kakaiba. Okay mali yata ang math ko pero basta gets nyo na yun! Haha
Leah on the other hand is also our typical girl who dreams. She is also bubbly and someone who will do anything for her family. That's why I get her when she needed to get marry just for the green card and how she quite reacted when her known dead mother tries to get back on their lives.
She is sensitive and is quite impulsive. Remember nung bigla bigla na lang sya umuwi the day na nalaman nya na buhay yung Nanang nya? There. I quite hated her for that, parang hindi nya muna inisip what to do next or even consulted Clark who shares a mutual feeling for her that time, basta na feel nya go na. But anyway, maybe that's why Leah and Clark is a good example of a couple. They are balanced. Clark is the relax type of guy and he makes the decisions more calmly and more from the mind rather that the heart.
Leah is also quite innocent when it comes to relationships. The time she can't admit to herself that she falls for Clark and the time when she cannot face her own feelings. I think this is one of the reasons why everyone hates her - for being insensitive when it comes to Simon's character. Hindi nya alam na may gusto sakanya si Simon or rather hindi nya nararamdaman because she sees him as a Boss and not in a romantic way. Even though gwapo/mayaman/matalino si Simon, hindi sya nagka crush or naattract sakanya which is why I admire her. For a usual girl, that's different. Simon is obviously a test of love between Leah and Clark and aminin na natin na pasadong pasado si Leah even without review! There is no doubt about her love for Clark kasi if yes, she should've fallen for Simon the very first time kahit wala syang gusto sakanya. And as what CJ also said on her blog, her character isn't the type who assumes for things not unless sabihin or ilatag sa harap nya mismo. Aminin nyo kung kayo si Leah at ganun ang boss nyo mahirap hindi magustuhan diba? What more if lalo na may signs na may gusto din sya sainyo.
And this is why Clark has issues. Aside from the fact that he is the type who had strived hard to reach his goals and achieve his dreams, I think Clark has trust issues on his own. He don't trust himself enough that's why he is quite unsure of Leah's love for him and is threatened by Simon. But he is right sa nararamdaman nya na may gusto si Simon kay Leah, and I think guys know that first hand because they know the moves just like for us girls kapag alam natin yung nangyayari on a girl's perspective. Clark has issues on his self that he needs to resolve. He is afraid of competing dahil may grudge sya na baka matalo sya connecting with his relationship to his father whom who didn't chose him back then. But I think kung hindi naman gwapo/matalino/mayaman si Simon or kung mas feeling nya nakakaangat sya or baka kung babae ang boss ni Leah (Samantha? Simona?), he certainly wouldn't act the way he did.
Let me just share that I admire Leah for always comprimising for Clark's feelings. I personally think that compromise is the hardest thing a person does. You give up your values, you set aside your thoughts and decisions, you just let your partner choose for the both of you even though you have your own set of choices. That's so hard. And I look up to her for never doubting on Clark's decisions for the both of them - to save the relationship and to let things slide smoothly.
CAREER? LOVELIFE?
It isn't easy to choose over two matters especially if you are in a very serious relationship and has found the perfect career. I have two thoughts on this:
A // We all know that Leah and Clark is still married legally. This is why Clark must be secured with her aside from Leah's love for him. They have rings and they consider themselves as married persons because they really are (wait ang labo ko)! In this kind of set up, a big work offer bound for Dubai shouldn't quite hurt them if they think about their future: finances, house, business, Tatang Sol's condition, future kids, future kids' future and so on. That's hitting two birds in one stone if you take Leah's perspective. You get a good promotion, your salary will increase, good opportunities will come along for you easily since you will get a highly good job experience, you will also get to save up big time. Decision making for the situation is quite easy if they have this kind of thinking. Yun lang of course kailangan magtiis because Dubai is quite far from home.
B // Clark and Leah were two young married couple who enjoys their lives together. They are both contented and okay with what they have and a job offer in Dubai is really a bigger step to what they have right now. Leah getting a big promotion means her being great at her current job. If being contented is tested, the job offer wouldn't be much of a big deal. Pwede naman sya makakuha ng iba pang promotion or after a year or two, she can move out of the company and apply for higher positions based on her good work background. And for sure Simon would give her a good commendation for her job. Being a young couple and a family oriented person, she wouldn't take the job dahil marami pang opportunities na darating, she's sure.
And then there, last week Leah chose B. But is needed to re-choose and consider because of Tatang Sol's needs. But the choosing would be different if Clark was open minded to the matter. I am not blaming him. Who am I to blame a guy who just wants to be with his girl and not leave his side, kasi kaya naman nila mabuhay with his business and her day job. I can't blame him for that. But Clark's reasons doesn't end there. He's afraid. Afraid because Simon has greater advantage with Leah and afraid because he is being left out while Leah's career is blossoming so fast. He's jealousy and insecurities came into him which is quite selfish. He's opinion of the matter is important for Leah because he is his husband and of course, he is important to her. Maybe it's one of the reasons why Leah decided not go. But then again, I admire Leah's compromising skills. How can she do that so easy?
NO HATING
Whenever my sister is with me while watching, she gets pissed with Leah's actions and I keep on explaining to her na si Leah ganito ganyan. But I can't convinced her haha I think she's only seeing the surface of the situation and not really thinking deeply why the characters do this or that.
This is why OTWOL is a very different serye. It gives us, the viewers, the time to think. It keeps us hanging and it surprises us the way we didn't expect to be surprised. It's not just kilig or about relationships, it's about family, friendships, and embracing yourself. It levels up to the international TV series that we watch, yung nagiisip at hindi predictable. It gives us the time to embrace the character's being by knowing their pasts and while they resolve their current situations. It is also quite a thing how everyone reacts to every episode - we all share rants, thoughts, and our own opinions for a unpredictable circumstances.
PORTRAYAL
Hats off to all the casts, directors, and writers of this teleserye. I mean, they were all effective dahil lahat ay talaga namang nasasaktan, kinikilig, nahuhumaling, at nagiisip sa mga posibleng maganap. This is quite a first time na everytime there is happening on On The Wings Of Love, everyone on my twitter feed and facebook timeline rants and shares their thoughts!
Speaking as a non bias fan of Jadine, I am so sure that they had portrayed their characters very well. Also, I cannot think of any other artist who can and who will be fit to be Simon aside from Paulo Avelino! (He's really good in Sana Dati!) His good looks and good acting skills makes him the perfect Simon to our not-so-perfect Cleah.

Last Friday, the Last Flight trailer aired in the middle of commercials. This is what we all have been waiting for! The answers to all the clues we have been getting every now and then. Even I have so many questions that I've been dying to ask and know the answers! As a person who loves spoilers, it kills me not to know something! Maybe this is one of the reasons why I rant and analyze the situations. Hahaha hindi ko mapigilan, i'm sorry.
Today is the start of the three week countdown 'till the happy ending of Cleah. Or is there any? Anyway, we all have our own predictions and theories and hula hula when it comes to the ending. Ako rin ang dami kong hula hula! Like baka hindi naman maging si Simon and Leah or baka nanliligaw pa lang or baka naman naging sila nga because it had been years since then. Or baka naman mutual nag decide si Leah at Clark na maghiwalay because Long Distance Relationship isn't working for the both of them. We never know!!
I have mixed emotions for the coming weeks! I think I have invested so much emotions and feelings for this show! We'll know the answers as well as the ending is coming nearer! No reason to turn on the TV at 9:15pm every weekdays! Hahaha OA!
Anyway, I know for sure that it will end the way that is supposed to be whether the both of them lives a happy ending or not or in whatever roller coaster ride their relationship would go through. But surely, we will all miss this kind of teleserye - the kind where we fall in love with the characters as if we fell in love on our own.
